Who are the Friends?

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization made up of over 3500 members and over 300 volunteers, all dedicated to celebrating and promoting a literate community by supporting and funding enhanced library programs and services in Pima County.

The Friends of the Pima County Public Library was founded in 1968 by a small group of passionate library advocates who believed in the power of public libraries to transform lives. What began with just ten dedicated supporters has grown into a thriving nonprofit with over 3500 members and 300 volunteers strong.


Over the years, the Friends have contributed more than $4 million to support library programs, services, and literacy efforts across Pima County — $240,000 annually on average. Through book sales, memberships, and donations, we help fund impactful programs that inspire readers of all ages and backgrounds, including the following:
