The Friends of the Pima County Public Library celebrate and promote a literate community by supporting and funding enhanced library programs and services provided by the Pima County Public Library system.

Our Mission is to:

  • Support the Library and promote literacy
  • Raise funds to enhance library services and programs
  • Encourage community involvement
  • Promote love of reading/love of learning
  • Re-circulate materials in an environmentally responsible way

Our History

The Friends was founded 50 years ago in 1968 by ten dedicated Library supporters with a goal of supporting and contributing to the Library in Tucson.

The Friends have grown to over 1200 members today contributing $240,000 to the Library annually ($4 million since 1999) to support Library programs and services, promote literacy, learning, and community involvement for young and old alike through programs such as:

  • Summer Reading Programs
  • Southwest Literature Project
  • Nuestras Raices
  • Individual Branch Activities
  • GED and Computer Classes
  • GLBT author events
  • First Grade Library Cards
  • Teen Programs

Leadership

The Friends of the Pima County Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in Arizona. Our Board of Directors are committed to contributing to Library programs and services through our book sales and other fundraising activities.
